Buffered Charcoal Yeast Extract Agar with Dyes, Glycine, Vancomycin, and Polymyxin B (BCYE-DGVP) is a selective and differential medium for the isolation and presumptive identification of Legionella. Developed and refined in the early 1980s to improve recovery of Legionella from contaminated samples. Buffered Charcoal Yeast Extract Agar with Cephalothin, Colistin, Vancomycin, and Cycloheximide (BCYE-CCVC) is a selective and non-differential medium for the isolation and presumptive identification of Legionella. Bopp et al. developed BCYE-CCVC agar in 1981. A BCYE Agar base is supplemented with antibiotics (cephalothin, colistin, vancomycin, and cycloheximide) to inhibit competing bacteria and fungi.
